India is rich in culture and heritage. Photographs are one of the important mediums of cultural heritage materials. The present paper emphasizes the importance of photographs as cultural and heritage materials. It discusses different aspects of photographs and the importance of digitization of such materials while presenting different techniques adapted in different projects at different places for posterity as well as for easy accessibility. It also enumerates the importance of the metadata adhering to Dublin Core Metadata Standards. Keywords

Cauliflower (Brassica oleracea var. Botrytis Linn.) is severely attacked by several insect pests particularly diamond back moth, Plutella maculipennis Curtz., and aphids Lipaphis erysimi Katt. Several insecticides have been in usage against the insect pests of cauliflower and application of spray formulated of quinalphos proved to be very effective in controlling them. However, the dissipation of quinalphos on cauliflower curds and leaves is necessary for recommendation of its safe use. Hence, an attempt was made to determine the persistance of and the removal of quinalphos residues by processing procedures in cauliflower curds. Dissipation of quinalphos at room and refrigeration storage temperatures and its interaction with nutrients is also reported.- A Descriptive Study to Assess the Quality of Sleep among the Elders Residing at Selected Old Age Homes, Salem

Sleep and rest are basic human needs essential to all individual's physical and psychological wellbeing. About one third of our lives are spent in sleeping. The purpose of sleep is a mystery; however it is necessary for good health and a sense of wellbeing. Sleep disturbances are the most common mental disorders reported among the older people in various countries. Thus, investigator felt the present study provide the information about the Quality of Sleep among elders residing at old age homes, Salem. The design adopted was descriptive research design. 60 elders were drawn from Henry old age home and Saradha old age home by non-probability, convenient sampling technique. The level of quality of sleep was assessed by using a Modified Pittsburgh Quality of sleep index scale. The data gathered were analyzed by using both descriptive&inferential statistics. The findings revealed that 3(5%) of them had good quality of sleep, 29(48.33%) of them had fair quality of sleep and 28(46.67%) of them had poor quality of sleep, There was significant association between the quality of sleep among elders with their selected demographic variables like marital status (λ2=12.56), educational status (λ2=21.38), and duration of stay (λ2 = 14.39). Hence the Null hypothesis is rejected, for the above mentioned demographic variables. The result of this study showed that most of the elders had fair and poor quality of sleep.

Pisonia grandis (R.Br) (grand devil's claw) (Nyctaginaceae) is a lettuce tree having anti-inflammatory, antidiabetic, diuretic, and wound healing activity. Antioxidant activity of aqueous fraction of ethanol extract of Pisonia grandis (R.Br) was analyzed by its electrochemical behavior. Cyclic voltammetry of the aqueous fraction of the ethanol extract at glassy carbon electrode with KCl as supporting electrolyte revealed a reversible and an irreversible redox reaction which is due to the presence of one or more secondary metabolites like flavonoids, phenols and tri-terpenoids having antioxidant properties. Keywords

The simple and reproducible high-performance thin-layer chromatographic method was used for the finger print study of ethyl acetate extract and dichloromethane fractionate of Samanea saman (Jacq.)Merr. Phytochemical examination of the extracts and fractionates revealed presence of significant phyto constituents. The study shows that HPTLC can be successfully used in the qualitative and quantitative determination of compounds in plant extracts. The phytochemical importance of the extracts of Samanea saman is also evident from the results.

The electro-chemical characteristics of carbonyl compounds are historically of interest. The present paper is aimed at carrying out a methodical cyclic voltammetric investigation of the peak potential values of 4-methyl-3-vinyl quinoline-2(1H) one (MVQ) in tetrahydrofuran (THF) with tetra butyl ammonium bromide (TBAB) as supporting electrolyte at glassy carbon electrode (GCE) with varying scan rate, concentration and pH. All the voltammograms showed only irreversible diffusion controlled reduction. Peak potentials vary linearly with the pH at all scan rates and concentrations. Keywords
